In the fall of 2022, Senior Fellow Noam Schimmel was published in the World Affairs journal with his new article titled “The UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review as a Rhetorical Battlefield of Nations: Useful Tool or Futile Performance?“.
In the article, Noam examines the rhetoric of nations who are documented as “severe violators of human rights.”
“Every country has the freedom to take a distinctive approach to what they choose to share in their national report,” Noam shares.
Applying the case study of Saudi Arabia, Noam explores the “value and limitations of the Universal Periodic Review process,” and questions how efficient it is at advancing human rights.
