The Humanity in Action Congressional Fellowship sought to strengthen ties among emerging European and American human rights leaders and to provide Humanity in Action Fellows and Senior Fellows with inside perspectives on the workings of the US Congress, the US government, political parties, minority issues, economic and social developments and human rights policy.
Since the Fellowship’s founding in 2001, more than 120 Humanity in Action Senior Fellows served as Congressional Fellows.
Our Fellows in recent years have worked in the following offices, among others:
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-New Jersey) | Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Illinois) | Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Florida) | Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) | Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-New York) | Rep. Juan Vargas (D-California) | Helsinki Commission | Perseus Strategies
The program was originally developed in partnership by Humanity in Action and the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice in 2001 under the leadership of Dr. Katrina Swett. The program was named in honor of both the late Tom Lantos – a former Congressman, Holocaust survivor and human rights champion – and his wife Annette.
