Frieder Kurbjeweit

Frieder Kurbjeweit is a scholar at the institute for disability studies at Cologne University, where he researches the relationship between disabled people and the state in capitalism. He did his masters in international relations at the University of Bremen, focusing on the activities of disabled people’s organizations in international politics.

Currently, his work focusses on the commodification and exploitation of disabled people in the German sheltered workshop system. Apart from his research, he is active in leftist political activism, promoting issues like accessible activism and a framing of disability not as a personal tragedy but a category of political oppression.
