Article

Imani Smith is a Black-American woman, community organizer, and activist. Rooted in her familial communities throughout Kentucky, Imani’s work has spanned across the issues of educational equity, electoral and civic engagement, and racial reckoning. Imani attained her B.A. in Politics in May 2023 from Centre College (Danville, KY). Since the 2020 uprisings in her hometown of Louisville, Imani has continued to advocate with and for youth leadership and Black liberation — establishing a scholarship for young Black Louisvillians with Russell Place of Promise and the Community Foundation of Louisville, and serving as the first Black woman President of the Student Government Association of Centre College in the institution’s (then) 204-year history. Her work has been featured in mediums like the Louisville Courier Journal and NBC Nightly News. Imani is a 2023 John R Lewis Scholar of the Faith and Politics Institute (Washington D.C) and 2025 member of Emerge Kentucky.
