Juan Lopez Flores

Article

Juan José Cruz López Flores is a queer human-centered designer, architect, and community builder whose work sits at the intersection of social justice, participatory design, and systems thinking. With a background in architecture and nearly a decade of experience bringing complex ideas to life, Juan deeply understands how the built environment shapes human relationships and reinforces—or reimagines—systems of power. He is a former union organizer who mobilized isolated home care workers across Pennsylvania and has led participatory design efforts with displaced Indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon. Juan is currently completing a Master’s in Human Centered Design and Engineering at the University of Washington and is the founder of Conscious Intervention, an experimental design studio that rethinks, redefines, and reimagines society’s most entrenched problems. His work is rooted in going beyond surface-level solutions, diving deep into root causes, and creating transformative spaces—physical, social, and emotional—where people can truly thrive.
