Maximilian Popp’s career in journalism intersects with many topics that are close to the heart of the Humanity in Action network.

For several years, Maximilian Popp was the Turkey-Correspondent of the German news magazine “Der Spiegel.” Since April 2019 he serves as Deputy Head of Foreign Affairs. He previously covered migration for the magazine. He is the author of two books: Staat Erdogan, a portrait of the Turkish president, and Tödliche Grenzen, an analysis of the European refugee reception crisis. Mr. Popp studied International Relations in Istanbul and graduated from the “Henri-Nannen-School of Journalism” in Hamburg.

Maximilian Popp is also an Advisory Board Member for Humanity in Action Germany.
