Born in Kenya to a Nigerian father and Kenyan mother, and raised between Nairobi and Toronto, Valerie Ntinu is a recent MA graduate in Media, Culture and Society. As an academic, Valerie has produced two successful research projects focused on the Black Womxn’s experience in both the Old and New World. Outside academia, Valerie has produced articles lent to magazines such as gal-dem and The Black Diaspora on topics ranging from challenging racist caricatures of Zwarte Piet in the Netherlands to detailing her experiences navigating through Predominantly White Spaces both in Europe and Africa. She is a member of the European Race and Imagery Foundation. Following the Fellowship, Valerie hopes to design projects focused on care and expressionism for Black Womxn in lower-income communities within Rotterdam and hopefully extend these efforts to the rest of Europe.
