Veronika Wiemker

Veronika is a freshly graduated medical doctor and research enthusiast with a focus on health equity and migration and a deep interest in people and their stories. She is currently specializing in pediatrics and working in the section for Health Equity Studies & Migration at Heidelberg University Hospital, involved in developing and implementing a medical documentation software to improve healthcare in refugee arrival centres. Over the past three years, Veronika has been working on her medical dissertation in global health in collaboration with the WHO European Office for Noncommunicable Diseases and supporting them as a consultant. She has published in scientific and non-scientific contexts on themes of preventive medicine, health equity and provider patient interactions and served in various civic engagement roles. During the fellowship she hopes to gain new tools for mutual learning and creating a welcoming and inclusive healthcare system that respects everybody’s right to health.
