Landecker Democracy Fellow Lievnath Faber works on co-creating a Jewish hub, Oy Vey, in the city center of Amsterdam, right in the middle of the former Jewish quarter. Lievnath’s idea is to create a lasting connection between the Jewish activists and the broader activist community in The Netherlands, specifically in Amsterdam. This will create a civic revolution against populist, nationalist, and racist forces in our society who benefit from the current antagonism between these communities.

Landecker Democracy Fellow Lena Bielska is a certified WenDo trainer who works as a human rights educator with a focus on consent, anti-discrimination, and empowerment. Over the next year, Lena will develop the Activist Support Center through three activities that she has already been working on in the past two years.

Landecker Democracy Fellow Katarzyna Słubik is the President of the Board at the Association for Legal Intervention in Warsaw. Katarzyna’s project, called ‘Know your rights!’, aims to improve access to justice for asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants, and to ensure equality before the law for minority groups.

This project aims to not only help increase the awareness of the consequences of COVID-19 but also define the role of leadership in a post-COVID-19 world.

Make friends not war – social media literacy campaign against disinformation & radicalization
Landecker Democracy Fellow Ignacy Niemczycki is an expert in communication and European affairs. He is a former civil servant who worked on the European Union budget and is a journalist dealing with European Union affairs. He would like to work on an education and communication campaign to build media literacy competencies among the most vulnerable groups, which include younger and older citizens from smaller communities.

Leaving no one behind - Training civic rescuers while raising awareness on the drowning human rights in the seas of Europe.
Landecker Democracy Fellow Iason Apostolopoulos is the field coordinator of the Italian humanitarian organization Mediterranea Saving Humans, where he leads the Search and Rescue operations in the central Mediterranean Sea onboard the Mare Jonio rescue vessel. The idea os his project is to promote the concept of civil response at sea to a wider audience and to strengthen the already existing network of people who actively protect migrants’ lives. The mobilization of local communities is a crucial factor in this process.
