Senior Fellow and Humanity in Action Guest Speaker Francis Seeck will publish their dissertation with the title “Trans_forming Care: an ethnographic study on trans and non-binary care work” this upcoming June. The dissertation will be available online and in print. Francis wrote their dissertation at the Institute for European Ethnology (HU Berlin) and was funded by The Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation.

How is care designed beyond heteronormativity? Little research exists so Francis addressed this knowledge gap through an ethnographic study. In doing so, they shed light on the self-care and caregiving practices within the trans and non-binary communities. Care work, which points beyond privatized family responsibility and medical care contexts, must thereby be considered for understanding the complex relationship between gender and care.
