Jasamin Ulfat-Seddiqzai on Staged Harmlessness

“Staged Harmlessness” is the title of a new opinion piece recently written and narrated by Senior Fellow Jasamin Ulfat-Seddiqzai for Deutschlandfunk Kultur, a German culture-oriented radio station.

In her piece, Jasamin follows up on the Bundestag election campaign of 2020, commenting on the cheesy slogans and the impossible goals of “Alternative for Germany” (AfD), Germany’s right-wing populist political party.

Jasamin comments on their strategy of Staged Harmlessness, which serves “to break emotional barriers between the middle class and the far right.” According to Jasamin, the consequences of self-trialization are very effective and can silence many voices as “every reaction seems awkward.”
