Senior Landecker Fellow Christiana Bukalo was recently interviewed by Michael Kniess for an ZDF Heute article titled “Affected by statelessness: ‘Not a full member of society.’”
In the interview, Christiana shares insights into the challenging life as a stateless person and the inspiration behind Statefree, the non-profit organization Christiana established.
“We want to give stateless people the right to their rights and initiate political solutions together with them,” Christiana shared. “In doing so, we enter into conversation with politicians, but also develop creative, artistic projects to ensure that this topic is perceived in society.”

Christiana is one of thirty 2020-2021 Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
