Zawdie Sandvliet: Afro-Dutch Studies at the University of Amsterdam

Details

Article

In February 2022, the IIS elective course Afro-Dutch Studies will begin at the University of Amsterdam, a decolonial course developed and taught by Landecker Senior Fellow Zawdie Sandvliet.

In a news article published by the University of Amsterdam, Zawdie answers three critical questions about the importance of this interdisciplinary field:

  1. For which students is this course intended?
  2. What makes the subject ‘decolonial’?
  3. How is the course structured?

To read his answers, find out more about the course on this University of Amsterdam page (in Dutch).

Zawdie is one of thirty 2020-2021 Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
