Aminata Umoja is the founder of Kilombo Academic and Cultural Institute in Decatur, Georgia. Kilombo is an African-centered independent school that educates children from Pre-K-8th grade. Kilombo fosters an academically excellent and culturally relevant education that produces students who are equipped to succeed globally and are committed to social justice.
Umoja is a founding member and the lead consultant for Umoja Education and Cultural Services. She is the author and the primary developer for “The Culturally Relevant Classroom, a Focus on Children of African Descent,” an online professional development tool as well as a professional development course.
Aminata is currently an educational consultant with Research for Better Teaching. She works with school districts across the country as well as individual schools. She is a founding member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement.
