Ida Nicolaisen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, Copenhagen University. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Carlsberg Foundation Nomad Research Project and former Vice-Chair of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Nicolaisen is an acclaimed expert in cultural anthropology, socio-economic transformation and the challenges facing developing countries. She has done extensive research among indigenous peoples in West Africa and South-East Asia. She has published more than 20 scientific books and is a member of numerous boards and human rights networks, including the international board of Humanity in Action. Nicolaisen is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and the Palestinian Academy of Science and Technology (honorary). She is Knight of the Order of Dannebrog. Ida is a former member of the Board of Directors of Humanity in Action, Inc. and member of the Board of Representatives for Humanity in Action Denmark.
