Jonas von Freiesleben currently works as a Special Advisor in the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities. In this position, he serves, among others, as deputy chief negotiator for Denmark in the international climate negotiations under the United Nations.
Prior to joining the ministry in 2018, he worked at the UN Secretariat in New York for almost ten years, including as an advisor in the Office of Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, where he specifically worked on the establishment and operationalization of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Earlier stints include positions at the Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations in New York, and with Amnesty International in Denmark. Mr. von Freiesleben holds a Master’s in contemporary history from the University of Copenhagen. He has also studied journalism at UC Berkeley, and has published a number of articles on the UN as well as on sustainability issues.
