Katie Hahn is a Co-Founder of Kindle Education, a proposed 6th-12th grade public charter school in Jersey City, NJ. Katie grew up in New York City, where she most recently worked with the Department of Education supporting a portfolio of 17 schools to implement holistic student/family supports as part of the country’s largest community schools initiative. Prior to that, Katie was a Community School Director at a public school, where she led a team of staff and partner organizations in school-improvement efforts that resulted in significant increases in student achievement. She brings experience in youth development, mental health, family engagement, and strategic partnership development to the endeavor of founding a school with her husband, DJ Hartigan. Katie holds an A.B. in Social Studies from Harvard University, an LMSW from NYU’s Silver School of Social Work, and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the High Tech High Graduate School of Education.
Katie is a 2021 – 2022 Racial Equity Grant recipient. The Racial Equity Grant, launched in Summer of 2020, is a 10-month grant which provides support to Humanity in Action Fellows and Senior Fellows as they defend racial equity and the #BlackLivesMatter movement through their projects. Generously funded by William H. Donner, it provides for dynamic civic action, critical social change and transformative promise as it relates to reckoning of past and present racial injustices.
