Owen Murphy is a European social psychology researcher. Having worked to support people challenged by addiction and homelessness, Owen came to understand how many problems individuals face are deeply rooted in societal challenges. In the most simple terms, how can someone overcome homelessness if housing is not even available or affordable? As a result, he pivoted from working with individuals to studying how systems function from a psychological perspective. In doing so, he has developed a set of research projects rooted in contemporary societal challenges like inequality, societal discontent, and group-based identity threats. Having worked with researchers across the Netherlands as well as in New York University and the University of Queensland, Owen is an innovative and resourceful researcher passionate about advancing cooperation to overcome societal challenges and improve our quality of life.
