Maria Evangelia Garaki is an experienced Programme Officer specializing in capacity building, partnership management, and strategic operational oversight within international humanitarian contexts. At UNHCR’s Regional Bureau for Europe and Division of Strategic Planning and Results in Geneva, she successfully managed extensive training programs, spearheaded the rollout of innovative management systems (PROMS), and introduced AI-driven operational enhancements. Her leadership contributed to significant improvements in compliance, effectiveness, and efficiency across multiple high-stakes emergency operations, notably during the Ukraine crisis.
Previously, Maria served as Programme Officer in Mauritania and as Senior Programme Assistant in Greece, where she led complex program teams, oversaw multimillion-dollar partnership agreements, and implemented rigorous compliance and quality assurance frameworks. Her robust analytical skills, commitment to continuous learning, and proven ability to enhance cross-functional collaboration consistently drive impactful outcomes, positioning her as a valuable asset in results-oriented humanitarian programming and organizational change management.
Maria attended the 2017 Berlin Fellowship.
