Article

Landecker Fellow Kuba Piwowar published his very first book: Technologie, które wykluczają (Excluding Technologies).

In the book, the Kuba looks at the processes that cause digital technologies to exclude women, queer people and people of color.

The book traces the history of exclusionary practices in the world of technology, as well as the sources of these practices in the methods of collecting and organizing data, the development of computer science, employment processes in technological companies or the extensive use of algorithms, including artificial intelligence.

Four years of work on my doctorate [and] a year of work on a book, I consider the topic […] unfortunately still relevant,” Kuba shared in a LinkedIn post.

  • The book (in Polish) is available for purchase on Scholar.com.

Kuba is one of thirty 2022-2023 Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
