Together with H401, Humanity in Action The Netherlands organizes the first HIA Talks of 2021 with two artists featured in the exhibition SHAME! and Masculinity.

On Wednesday January 27th, 2021 at 5PM (CET) / 11AM (EST), Humanity in Action The Netherlands’ Program Manager Raissa Biekman will moderate a panel with two of the artists: Nalini Malani  and Ina van Zyl. The discussion will revolve (amongst others) around themes such as rape culture, body positivity, sensuality and masculinity.

Nalini Malani is an Indian artist who incorporates her political engagement in her work. Her work ‘Rebellion (2020)’ is a video animation that depicts gender-based violence in India.

Ina van Zyl is a South African artist. ‘Shame’ is an important theme throughout her work. Her works ‘Politician’ (2010) and ‘Stateswoman’ (2010) reflect on how we perceive feminine and masculine leadership.

Also joining the panel is Femke Zeven (she/her). She is a cultural anthropologist, with a focus on gender and migration studies. She is currently in the process of becoming a lawyer and also a Senior Fellow (2016 Amsterdam Fellowship). Alongside her studies, she is working as a legal project coordinator at Bureau Clara Wichmann. Femke aims to create a more inclusive approach to Dutch law and policy, specifically regarding existing gender roles.

You can register for the event here.
