Ishan Sharma

Ishan Sharma is a Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellow of Emerging Technologies at the Federation of American Scientists, a Project Advisor at the Day One Project, and a John Lewis Senior Fellow at Humanity in Action. He holds a B.S. from Cornell University and has studied jurisprudence and international human rights law at the University of Oxford. Currently, Ishan leads a special project at FAS focused on blending domestic and foreign policy on digital surveillance reform, with the aim of preserving democracy, rule of law, and human rights in the 21st century. He has presented at the TPRC and Internet Governance Lab’s 2021 Research Symposium, been published on China’s strategic exports in the political economy of AI surveillance, and co-authored a prize-winning piece for the 2020 Security Models “Era of COVID-19” policy competition at New America, among other publications. His grant-funded college thesis, “Colored Lenses,” investigated the influence of racial stereotypes on our perceptions of conflict with one another, and is currently tracking for publication in the Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes journal.

After participating in the 2019 John Lewis Fellowship in Atlanta, Ishan returned to Cornell and spent a year organizing a large-scale, community-based summit to raise attention to rampant child sex trafficking in his college town of Ithaca, NY.
