Leela Cullity Younger is an Urban Fellow at the NYC Commission on Human Rights, where she works in the Policy division. She is originally from Columbia, Missouri and graduated from Occidental College in 2024 with a degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs.
For four years, she has conducted research on corporate and colonial marketing in the beauty industry, with a particular focus on skin lightening creams. Through this she has learned how chemical exposure through consumer products is an environmental justice concern. She has conducted research on immigration policy in Canada, gender-based violence as an asylum claim, and reproductive health access. Through her work at the Commission she has focused on housing rights and advocacy, especially for justice impacted communities.
Trained in participatory documentary film, Leela believes in storytelling as a crucial tool to create and sustain change.
