Article

Zarja Marković-Kosorić is the National Executive Director of Humanity in Action Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she has been an integral part of the team since 2018. With a strong foundation in media, communication, and international affairs, she has led a range of programs that focus on human rights, youth leadership, and post-conflict engagement.

She holds a Master’s degree in Media Studies and Journalism and a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Russian Language and Literature from the University of Sarajevo. Over the past six years, Zarja has managed the EDVACAY Fellowship, working closely with young leaders across the country to nurture civic engagement and critical thinking. She also oversees the Humanity in Action Sarajevo Fellowship and all major programs and events within the organization.

As Executive Director, Zarja is responsible for setting strategic direction, supervising all projects, managing stakeholder relationships, ensuring financial sustainability, and maintaining external visibility on both national and international stages. She regularly reports to Humanity in Action Inc. and donor institutions, while cultivating partnerships that align with the organization’s mission.

Beyond her work at Humanity in Action, she contributed to establishing DIPLO, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first diplomatic magazine, by closely collaborating with embassies in Sarajevo to develop content and design the publication (2023–2024). She also supported research led by UNODC on technology-facilitated gender-based violence against women and girls in BiH, providing technical assistance during a national assessment process.

Earlier in her career, she worked as a correspondent for TRIAL International, covering transitional justice, and was actively involved in student art and activist initiatives — a reflection of her enduring dedication to grassroots change, intercultural understanding, and public advocacy.
