Our community takes action to defend democratic values around the world. Explore our Fellows' Action Projects here.
In the 11 months following the on-site or virtual Fellowship program, our Fellows work on their Action Project: an independent venture focused on promoting democratic values in their own communities. Action Projects are as diverse as Humanity in Action Fellows. Fellows apply their new knowledge and perspectives to the communities they impact—in whatever format they find meaningful. The Humanity in Action community is a great resource for getting support—be it with contacts, experience or good advice. Teen Flying University / Latający Uniwersytet Młodzieży
Landecker Democracy Fellow Tomasz Cebulski founded a research and historical interpretation center, POLIN TRAVEL. He is an experienced genealogist and licensed tour leader in Poland and Central Europe. His project is a “Teen Flying University” ( or "Latający Uniwersytet Młodzieży" in Polish) and it will teach local history to help build a global future.

Monumental Histories: Black Archival Practice and the Interpretation of Racist Visual Culture
Landecker Democracy Fellow Tsione Wolde-Michael is a Curator of African American Social Justice History at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. This project will engage young archaeologists, community members, and local activists to creatively address the current challenges and strategically diversify the field of heritage work.

Na’egbia Iyese
Landecker Democracy Fellow Vincent Kadiri is a Nigerian German scientist currently pursuing his doctorate degree at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, Germany. Vincent wants to establish a grassroots network of BIPOC scientists that focuses on improving communication and ensuring more equity within the sciences.

#Trillenials for civil society
Landecker Democracy Fellow Vlad Dumitrescu is currently working for the Civil Society Development Foundation in Bucharest, Romania. Vlad will work with a group of at least 25 young individuals, who will be called #trillenials, from all over Romania, and enroll them in a one-year learning program.

Bijlmer Valley - Get Digital
Landecker Democracy Fellow Zawdie Sandvliet is a Social Studies teacher and the initiator of the Afro-Dutch Studies at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. His project will create awareness around the historically determined disparities within the Dutch elementary and high school education system when it comes to opportunities and educational results.

Community broadcasting: mainstreaming intersectionality in Hungary
Landecker Democracy Fellow Boglarka Fedorko is an activist, campaigner and facilitator currently based in Budapest, Hungary. She works as the Public Relations Manager of Romani Design, the world's first Roma-owned fashion label as well as a consultant for international feminist, Romani and LGBTQ+ networks. Her project, will amplify the voices of those who are the most affected by the current illiberal governance in Hungary: women, migrants, Roma and LGBTQ people, and other groups who face intersectional discrimination.

Statefree.World
Landecker Democracy Fellow Christiana Bukalo is a Senior Diversity and Sustainability Manager at the German streaming startup Joyn. Her current role focuses on establishing a solid foundation and strategy for the company’s activities in inclusion and sustainability. Her project aims to provide a platform for an authentic reflection of what it means to be stateless in today's world. By inviting stateless people to speak up about their struggles and challenges, Statefree.world will simultaneously raise awareness and lay emphasis on the need for change and political support.

Claiming our Institutions – Network and Empowerment for BIPOC in Administrations
Landecker Democracy Fellow Evein Obulor is working on different levels of our societies to fight racism. In her current position as the Coordinator of the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism she works on racial injustices at the city level. Within the next 12 months, she wants to create a network in Germany for BIPOC working within local governments, politics, and administrations and a platform to BIPOC network and exchange best practices.
