Kalle’s action plan harnesses the power of literature and reading to bridge cultural divides.
Kalle observed that children in Swedish schools often have limited exposure to cultures from the Global South. This lack of interaction can unintentionally reinforce stereotypes and prejudices about children from other parts of the world.
To address this, Kalle launched a literature circle involving two classes in Sweden and one class in a Kenyan school. As part of the project, he traveled to Enkokidongoi, Kenya, to collaborate with the school’s headmaster on bringing the initiative to life. Through this program, Kalle aims to create a meaningful dialogue between the schools, fostering understanding and connection among the children through shared reading experiences—and breaking down stigmas in the process.
