Tamara shares how Germany is one of the countries with the highest levels of educational inequality, especially in international comparison. She shares how an individual’s educational success in Germany is strongly influenced by their social background. Children from non-academic households have significantly lower chances of accessing higher levels of education. On top of that, unfortunately, institutional support is lacking and does not encourage children and young adults to pursue purposeful and fulfilling lives, but rather focuses on avoiding unemployment at all costs. These factors together reproduce structural inequalities that have real effects on young people’s lives. With her project, she wants to provide a space to turn to for resources, inspiration, or an encouraging support network. On a broader societal level, the project contributes to improving equal access to education and promotes social inclusion, by reducing social and educational inequalities.
Project Development
Tamara wanted to create a space to share stories and resources, and to provide a source of inspiration for others. That is why Tamara and her sister founded the Why Project. The Why Project amplifies the voices of first-generation students and purpose-driven individuals who are reshaping what’s possible. The Why Project shares stories that inspire, provides resources that empower, and builds a community rooted in connection, courage, and clarity of purpose. Through storytelling, shared experience, and honest conversations, the Why Project aims to break systemic and personal barriers – while building bridges across backgrounds, disciplines, and generations. They believe everyone has a “why” – and by discovering and living it, we can change not just our own path, but the world around us.
