Dinner Dialogues are informal, self-organized gatherings of Humanity in Action Senior Fellows and community members—over a shared meal, in person or online—to connect, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversation.

Group photos of Fellows and Senior Fellows gathering across the network for dinner Fall 2023.
These gatherings are meant to:
- Create space for meaningful, intentional dialogue around topics of shared relevance or concern
- Build deeper community and peer support across geographies and generations, whether in your city or across the network online, over a meal in community with each other
- Offer moments of connection during times of challenge and joy
How to Host a Dinner Dialogue?
Anyone in the Humanity in Action network is welcome to host a Dinner Dialogue gathering. Here’s how:
Step 1: Plan your gathering
Bring together a few fellow Senior Fellows or community members—ideally three or more—in your area or online for a shared meal and conversation.
Step 2: Let us know
We love hearing about these gatherings! You’re welcome to email Joanna at j.pottle@humanityinaction.org to let us know your plans, and we can support you by:
- Sharing our Inspirations for Peaceful Dining conversation guide
- Helping connect you with other Senior Fellows in your area, if desired
Step 3: Share how it went
If you’re open to it, we’d be thrilled to receive a photo, quote, or short reflection from your dinner to get a glimpse into your gathering.
Why Did We Start Dinner Dialogues?
Humanity in Action launched the Senior Fellow Dinner Dialogues in the wake of October 7, 2023, as a way to bring people together in person– offering space for dialogue, connection, and support during a time of profound grief, polarization, and uncertainty.
Our hope then—and still now—is that around a shared table, we can come together to listen, reflect, debate, agree or disagree, and support one another as human beings beyond the echo chambers we often find ourselves in.
From November 2023 through April 2025, Humanity in Action sponsored this initiative. During that time, 31 sponsored dinners were held with more than 100 Senior Fellows participating across over a dozen cities around the world:
Amsterdam, The Netherlands | Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA | Athens, Greece | Berlin, Germany | Brussels, Belgium | Chicago, Illinois, USA | Cologne, Germany | Copenhagen, Denmark | Krakow, Poland | London, UK | Los Angeles, California, USA | Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA | New York, New York, USA | Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina | Tel Aviv, Israel | Warsaw, Poland | Washington, DC, USA
Whether you’ve helped organize a Dinner Dialogue, joined one in the past, or are thinking about hosting one for the first time, we invite you to take part in this new community-led chapter. Share a meal, gather in conversation, and continue building community—wherever you are in the world.
