The University of Edinburgh publishes Enlightened, a digital magazine for their alumni. In their most recent feature, the magazine has published a short essay by Senior Landecker Fellow Laura Westring.

The essay titled The Shapeshifter is about Laura’s experience of Scottish identity and speechwriting as a woman and a minority.

Scotland is the gift my parents and grandparents gave me and, from that gift, I gained the ability to inhabit two worlds,” introduces Laura her essay, describing her path to her current life “with increasing confidence on [her] own terms.”

Laura is one of thirty 2020-2021 Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundationand Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
