Nicole on Digital peace education for "Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft"

In the spring of 2023, Landecker Fellow Nicole Rieber wrote an article about Digital peace education as well as her Action Project for German Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft.

While young people have many worries on their mind – the pandemic, war in Ukraine, or climate change – disinformation is spreading at great speed on social media and generally on the internet,” Nicole introduces the topic.

Nicole then explains that young people in times of crisis often look for role-models among adults, “especially parents and teachers,” she adds, noting that “further training of teachers in the field of disinformation and conspiracy narratives is thus gaining in importance.

This is precisely where Nicole’s Landecker Action Project titled Digital.Truth comes in. Indeed, Nicole’s project offers teachers and parents a space to trans-generationally exchange about disinformation and conspiracy theory narratives. “If parents and teachers have knowledge and skills with regard to these phenomena, they can help children and youths in finding a safe social media approach,” Nicole explains.
