Article

Landecker Fellow Catherine Neilan’s podcast Making Common Ground launched earlier this month. Catherine, a journalist who currently serves as Politics Live Editor at the Telegraph, created this podcast with the goal of creating in-depth conversations amongst different groups of people.

The first episode features Stanford professor James Fishkin. He and Catherine discuss how deliberative democracy has allowed people across the political spectrum to compromise and reach agreements on policy issues. You can listen to the full episode here.

In the second episode, Catherine hosts former Vote Leave chief executive, Matthew Elliott. The two reflect on Brexit and contemporary culture wars in Great Britain. You can hear the full conversation here.

Catherine is one of thirty Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
