Landecker Fellow Marissa Gutierrez-Vicario is the Founder and Executive Director of Art and Resistance Through Education (ARTE).
For her Action Project, Marissa has recently launched a new cohort of Youth Voices Lead, a digital community training program for youth organizers (ages 15-18) to strengthen their human rights knowledge and artistic tools and discover how to take action for racial justice change.
The program works in collaboration with the Initiative for a Just Society (IJS) at Columbia University, and the cohort will engage around the concept of abolition as it relates to mass incarceration, policing, and racial discrimination in the United States.
You can find more information about the program on this ARTE webpage. To stay updated on ARTE’s activities, follow them on LinkedIn.
Marissa is one of thirty 2021-2022 Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
