The project “Memory Walk Sarajevo ” was supported by Humanity in Action as a grant competition project.
Senior Fellows Laura Boerhout and Lamija Landžo created the Memory Walk workshop in Sarajevo to encourage Bosnian youth from different backgrounds to reflect critically on the monuments and contested histories in their living environment. Thirteen young Bosnians participated in the five-day workshop, which began with a day of lectures on memorialization by several activists and experts. The participants then engaged in creative exercises and walking tours that required them to analyze the monuments in their own neighborhoods through the lens of what they had learned during the lectures. The participants then created short films with the help of professional filmmakers and editors about a specific monument based on interviews and in-depth research. The short films were screened at the Art Cinema Kriteron during a film festival in Sarajevo.
