Landecker Fellow Solomiia Stasiv with her team at Clooney Foundation for Justice filed three cases in Germany against Russian commanders for crimes they committed in Ukraine, requesting that they be prosecuted as war crimes and crimes against humanity under the principle of universal jurisdiction.
Solomiia and the teams spent 18 months interviewing witnesses, carrying out field work, deciding on the best legal approach and preparing the survivors and families of the victims.
“I am beyond grateful to the 16 families of brave Ukrainians who have witnessed grave atrocities and found the courage to pursue justice. We could not have been more honoured to carry on their trust and turn it into action,” Solomiia shared via LinkedIn.
