On October 21, Landecker Fellow Lena Bielska was invited to the City and Culture conference to discuss issues related to the area of activist burnout.
The theme of the 2021 City and Culture conference revolved around the concept of regeneration and its different interpretations. For some seen as a break to recharge social batteries, for others as a way to take responsibility for the planet we live in, regeneration must represent a focal matter in our current societal system.
Amongst several other speakers, Lena, trainer for strength and development at Centrum Wsparcia Aktywistycznego, discussed the burnout individuals experience within Polish social work. Throughout her speech, she talks about the socio-cultural, systemic and economic factors influencing the emergence of crisis and psycho-physical overloads.

Lena is one of thirty Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
