Apply from Poland

Become a Fellow in our Polish delegation, learn about social justice challenges and opportunities in Warsaw or Sarajevo.

Applications to our 2021 Fellowships are now open until February 14, 2021.

Our Fellowship Program Dates in 2021:
Warsaw and Sarajevo: June 1 – 23, 2021 (virtual)

As a part of the year-long Fellowship, our Fellows first participate in an intensive three-week educational program providing a country and context-specific curriculum that examines historical and contemporary challenges to human rights, pluralism and equality. After the three weeks, they embark on developing civil society initiatives in their own communities (Action Projects).

The Fellowship comes with an ongoing training program to help Fellows implement their Action Projects, to continue collaborative learning and to keep in touch with their peers and the international Fellows’ community. These meetings will not exceed 2.5 hours.

Warsaw Fellowship
The 2021 Warsaw Fellowship will be dedicated to intersectional social justice and will offer a critical examination of the past and contemporary human rights challenges through a gendered lens. The program will take into account how gender combines with race, ethnicity, (dis)ability, sexual orientation, and social class, resulting in diverse modes of discrimination. We will consider the backsliding of democracy with hate speech and hate crimes on the rise. Through Fellowship, we will explore innovative strategies applied by human rights defenders in response to intensifying systemic exclusion.

Sarajevo Fellowship
The Sarajevo Fellowship delves into nuanced discussion of transitional justice, post-conflict identity politics, and peacebuilding. It uses both the urban and rural landscapes around the capital to help Fellows connect the unique diversity of Bosnia and Herzegovina to international issues of ethnic nationalism, right-wing extremism, and the crafting of pluralistic democracies.

The participation in our Fellowship programs is free of charge.

What We Offer

Our programs offer an opportunity to learn about the different nationally-relevant themes illuminated by diverse experts, site visits, individual presentations by the Fellows, and group discussions.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to look closely at the programs of previous years to get a sense of the daily rhythms and foci of the programs. While these programs are not designed to develop advocacy skills, it is our experience that the educational experience will provide the intellectual foundation through which future civic engagement can grow.
