Izronit' će Stari

Article

In order to contribute to peacebuilding in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is the driving motive of this project,

Interviews in Mostar

EDVACAY fellows Nejra Lilić, Melisa H. Mehmedović, and Minja Čulić want to address the issue of cultural heritage and its role in post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They addressed the question of whether buildings such as the Ferhat Pasha Mosque in Banja Luka, the Old Bridge in Mostar, and the City Hall in Sarajevo, which were demolished during the war and rebuilt post-war, contribute to the continuous and future inter-ethnic discord, or whether it is the other way around. They examined what young people in BiH think about these cultural heritage sites and how much they contribute to a more harmonious relationship. They interviewed young people from Banja Luka, Mostar, and Sarajevo about their views, observations, opinions, and actions regarding the aforementioned cultural heritage sites and monuments. The course of each interview was documented in video format. The project involves a large number of young people from different ethnic groups.

“Izronit’ će Stari” (The Old Ones will Emerge) contributes to peacebuilding in Bosnia and Herzegovina, educating people about cultural heritage in BiH, and raising awareness of ethnic divisions and social constructs that come from these sites.
