We are thrilled to announce that Humanity in Action’s animated short film Two Trees in Jerusalem was officially selected to have its World Premiere at the esteemed Miami Jewish Film Festival.

The Miami Jewish Film Festival, which will take place between January 13-27, 2022, is the largest Jewish film festival in the world. This year, it is celebrating its 25th edition with a selection of 108 feature and 40 short films representing 25 countries.

Although this will be the film’s first public screening, Two Trees in Jerusalem has already received an honorable mention from the jury of the Budapest Film Festival on November 30th.

The film, co-produced by our Executive Director Judith Goldstein and Irene Braam, Executive Director of the Bertelsmann Foundation, is based on the same-name book by Humanity in Action Germany’s honorary chair, Cornelia Schmalz-Jacobsen.

Two Trees in Jerusalem shares the remarkable history of Eberhard and Donata Helmrich, who together saved the lives of hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust. The story is narrated by Cornelia Schmalz-Jacobsen, the couple’s daughter, who was called into her parents’ confidence as a child of six, and was imbued with an inner-strength that guided her work decades later as a journalist, politician, and Federal Comissioner for Foreigners’ Affairs.
