October ‘43 Travel Grant
The Travel Grant is dedicated to young students and professionals who work with issues regarding refugees and/or the protection of minorities in either the academic, social, political or practical field. The travel grant applies to projects on Danish conditions or Danish engagements abroad.
The travel grant is established in commemoration of the solidarity of Danish civil society in its rescue of its Jewish countrymen and -women in October 1943.
Applicantions for the 2021 Travel Grant are now open. Applicants are requested to describe their project in no more than 400 words and submit a budget. The 2021 grant will focus on travels with the purpose of collecting information for a project, or doing a project, on minimum a university master’s level.
The October ’43 Travel Grant does not cover expenses for studying abroad or school trips abroad.
The project has to be completed within a year.
In case the project is delayed due to current corona-situation, a postponement is possible.

The travel grant is made possible by funds raised at an art auction, exhibited in Politikens Forhal in September/October 2018, as a collaboration between Humanity in Action and Politiken for the 75th Anniversary of October 1943. The travel grant will be distributed according to the board’s decision in either one portion a year for the amount of DKK 30.000 or divided in two smaller portions.
The Award Ceremony
The Travel Grant Award Ceremony will take place in February 2022 at a public event in Copenhagen, (travel to/from Copenhagen is not covered by Humanity in Action or the travel grant). The grantee is comitted to tell about the project at next year’s award.
The Travel Grant Board
It is the Travel Grant Board who selects the recipient or recipients. Board members: Mette Davidsen, cultural editor, Politiken, Anders Jerichow, Senior Correspondent at Politiken and former Chair of the Humanity in Action Denmark Board of Directors through many years, and Annette Milner, Client Services Director at Brandhouse and manager of the October ’43 Travel Grant.
